Registrations
- How do I register for the race?
There are 3 ways to register:
- Online: Online Registration is now closed. You can still register at in person or on Race Day.
- By Mail: The deadline has passed for mailing in entries. Please register at in-person registration.
- In-Person Registration Week:
Saturday, May 2nd - Friday, May 8th
10:00 a.m - 6:00 p.m. daily

- What are the deadlines for registering for the race?

- Online Registration is now closed.
- Off-line Registration (Paper Form)
- Deadline for Team Captains to mail in all paper forms has passed. Have your team members sign up on-line or bring the forms to in-person registration. Depending on the number of people, this could take awhile to process. At this point, your team will not qualify for team benefits (e.g. Team Picture, Team Sign or Team Awards) but you can still walk/run as a team.
- Deadline for individual to mail in paper form has passed. You can still register on-line or inperson.

- Do I need to pay to register and pay the fee if I collect donations?
Yes. If you plan on participating on race day. Registration fees assure us that we can pay for the expense of putting on the race. One-hundred percent of all donations are dedicated to our vision of "life without breast cancer". If you cannot participate on race day but still want to collect donations for the cause and qualify for prizes, you can register to "collect donations only". There is no fee for this category of registration and you will not be eligible for a race t-shirt.
- Will there be official timing?
Yes. Chip-timing is available.
- What is Sleep In for the Cure®?
This is a way to participate even if you cannot join us on Race Day. You may be out of town, work nights or just want to stay home and sleep in! The week before the race we will mail you a Race t-shirt and "I'm Sleeping In for the Cure" doorknob hanger. Register as an individual or as part of a team and collect donations to qualify for prizes.
- What does it cost to register for the race?
Adult -- Non-Timed, 5K or 1-mile = $35
Adult Chip-Timed, 5K = $40
Child (6-12) Non-Timed, 5K or 1-mile = $15
Child (6-12) Chip-Timed, 5K or 1 mile = $20
Child (5 & under) = No Fee (Must complete Registration Form to participate. No t-shirt provided)
Sleep In for the Cure® = $40
(includes postage for mailing t-shirt and "I'm Sleeping in for the Cure" doorknob hanger.)
Race Day registration is an additional $5 for adults and children
- I've registered for the race. Now what do I do?
Individuals - We recommend that you pick up your t-shirt, race number and Race day information at In-Person Registration:

T-shirts are ordered months in advance and are by necessity distributed on a first- come, first-served basis at In-Person Registration.
Donation Program
- If I have registered for the race, why should I collect additional donations?
The majority of your registration fee goes toward producing this large-scale, one-day Race event. One-hundred percent of all donations help fund local breast health education, breast cancer screening and support programs and fund national research.
- Add any amount to your registration fee to invest in local support services and national research
- Inspire others to donate! Donation checks and completed Donation Form must be received by May 23, 2009.
- What are the prizes for collecting donations?
Grand Prize: 3 day get-away trip for two to Maui (air and hotel)
Second Place: $500 Raley's gift card
Third Place: $300 Raley's gift card
- Prizes are awarded by the checks we receive by the postmark deadline of midnight, Saturday, May 23, 2009 and if mailed in must by accompanied by a completed Contributions form.
- Only one prize per person is awarded. Prizes are not cumulative.
- We reserve the right to replace a prize with another prize of equal value.
- All prizes will be mailed 6-8 weeks after the May 23rd postmark deadline, and must be claimed or forfeited by September 30, 2009.
Not only do you receive a prize, but you are giving someone else a chance to live.
- For every $75 you collect you are providing a possibly life-saving clinical exam
- For every $125 you collect provides a possibly life-saving mammogram.
- When and how will I get my prize?
All prizes will be mailed 6-8 weeks after the postmark deadline of midnight, Saturday, May 23, 2009.
- What is the deadline for mailing in or collecting donations online?
All prizes will be awarded based on checks mailed to Komen Race for the Cure, P.O. Box 1390, Dixon, CA 95620 with a completed donation form postmarked no later than midnight Saturday, May 23rd, 2009. Online donations will be included in the total up until midnight Saturday, May 23rd, 2009.
- Where may I find a donation form?
You may download a registration form.
- How long do I have to claim my prize?
All prizes must be claimed or forfeited by September 30th, 2009.
- How should checks be made out?

- Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. One-hundred percent of donations are tax deductible. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Sacramento Valley Affiliate is a 501c3 non-profit (tax ID # 94-3169358) The tax credit can only be taken by the person writing the check or holder of the credit card. The person collecting the donations may not claim those donations as a tax deduction.
- What can I do if I need help with my fundraising?
We have sample letters that can be e-mailed or handed out and a list of fundraising ideas. Visit the Donations Page and click on letters or ideas. Or call (916) 492-6474 and our race staff can fax or e-mail copies to you.
Teams
- How do I start or join a team? The deadline to officially start or join a team has passed. You can still register as an individual and walk/run with a team on race day. To start or join a team click on "Register", agree to the waiver and then click on either "Start a Team" or "Join a Team". If you start a team you are automatically the team captain.

- I am a team captain, how will I get my team's t-shirts, race numbers and race day information?
If you have at least 20 team members,you may pick up your Team Box on Friday, May 1st on the top floor of the Nordstrom garage at Arden Fair Mall, 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Your Team Box will include team member's Race t-shirts, Race numbers and Race day instructions. If you have not made the 20 member threshold then all materials may be picked up by individuals, at In-person registration Saturday, May 3 - Friday, May 8 - 10:00 a.m - 6:00 p.m. In front of Nordstrom inside Arden Fair Mall, Sacramento
- Our team is making our own, unique team shirt. How can I find out team member shirt sizes before the event?
Call the Race Hotline at (916) 492-6474 or e-mail the request to info@komensacramento.org. The staff will forward a copy of your roster to you. Note: there will not be a team t-shirt contest this year. Due to trademark law, the Komen logo may not be placed on any shirts other than what Komen provides to participants.
- I joined a team, what next?
Contact your Team Captain for race materials and information. If you registered online, be sure to visit the Race for the Cure site and log in to your Race Headquarters. There you will be given further information on next steps. If you registered offline, be sure to use the donations form to raise funds for the cause.
- How do I change the team I am on?
Call the Race Hotline at (916) 492-6474. Our staff will make the change for you.
- How may we change our designated team captain?

- Can there be more than one team captain?
You can have as many team captains as you like. However, only one can be associated with the team online.
- How do we qualify for a team sign and where do we get it?
The team signs will be in Cal Expo parking lot C (to the left of the main gate) on race morning.
- How do we get our picture taken on Race Day?
When you pick up your team box you will be given a team picture time.
- How do we win a team prize?
Prizes will be awarded for 1st-3rd places in each division: government, corporate, education and community for the

The highest percentage of team members collecting $200 or more
The total dollar amount collected by your team divided by the number of people on your team (team average amount totals collected per individual).
Note: to qualify for these prizes you must have a team of 20 or more members.

- How do I sign up to volunteer?

- I have a group of people that would like to volunteer together. How do we sign up as a group?

- What is Men for the Cure®?
Join this dedicated group of fathers, husbands, sons, brothers and friends to support Race Day - and receive a Men for the Cure T-shirt. This special group accomplishes important tasks before, on, and after Race Day activities.
- Will I receive a confirmation after I sign up to volunteer?
Yes. If you sign up online you will receive an automated confirmation and a reminder with further instructions.
- Where do I check in on race day?
There will be a volunteer tent at the Main gate of Cal Expo.
Survivor Program
- What is the survivor program?
We celebrate our survivors for their courage, their inspiration, and for the invaluable ways they touch our lives.
Register for the Race early so we can send you information about our Annual Survivor's Reception. Space is limited, reservations for you and a guest are required.
Before the Race:
If you have identified yourself as wanting to be recognized as a survivor during the registration process you will receive a pink shirt and hat compliments of Zeta Tau Alpha.
On Race Day:
As you cross the finish line in your pink shirt, pink hat and pink race number, you will be given a special survivor medal provided by the Pink Ladies clubs from our local high schools.
The Survivor Celebration and Awards Ceremony will be on Race Day. Please be sure to join us at 9:45 a.m. on Palm Avenue just to the right of the Main Stage for a processional walk and celebration.

Survivor Celebration and Awards Ceremony |
- Are there any awards for the 5K run?
Yes. Awards will be given to the top three males, females and survivors overall. Medals will be awarded for the top three finishers in each five-year age group: 14-under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, etc. to 70-over.
- Can I bring my dog?
No. Dogs other than certified service dogs are not allowed on the grounds of Cal Expo. Cal Expo staff/security may ask you to leave if you have a dog.
- Can I participate with inline skates?
No. For the safety of all participants, inline skates will not be allowed. Thank you for your cooperation.
- What if it rains the day of the Race?
The event will occur rain or shine. We do reserve the right to cancel in extreme circumstances. In that event, there will be no refunds, rather, your entry fee will be used as a donation to the Komen Sacramento Race for the Cure.
- Is the course certified?
Yes. The course certification number is pending.

- Where can I get a pink back signs for "In Honor of" or "In Memory of"?
They will be available at In-Person Registration Week and Race Day, Main Gate.
- Where can we meet our family and friends?
Before the race: Teams will be meeting to the left of the Main Gate (Lot C) at their team sign. Individuals may want to meet on the grass island in front of the Main Gate.
After the race: There will be a reunion area near the finish line with alphabet signs to assist you in meeting up with family and friends
- What is "I Am the Cure®"
It is Komen's rallying cry and educational message, encouraging women and men to take an active role in their breast health and understand that being aware is the first step in that process. Our race "cheerleading squads" will spread the simple, action-oriented messages that everyone can take home and put into practice. Listen for the cheers and join in!
Post Race Activities
- What is there to do after the race?
Immediately after the Finish Line there will be refreshing drinks offered by Coca Cola, Motts and Fuze. Delicious refreshments will be provided, compliments of Raley's Family of Fine Stores.
You will find a reunion area, a fun way to recycle your paper and plastic items. Don't miss the Post-Race Expo inside Buildings A&B. There will be a children's fun zone, free coffee and many other give-aways from our sponsors. Many of the Komen grantees will be present to show you what services they provide. Komen for the Cure will have a booth where you can hand in your donations, sign up for many Komen programs and take complimentary new educational materials.
- When is the survivor celebration and awards ceremony?
Our special ceremony celebrating survivors and award presentations begins at 10:00 am. at the Cove Stage.
